FAQS

CERAMIC NONSTICK

WHAT IS THERMOLON™?
All GreenPan products are coated with Thermolon™. This was the first and best ceramic nonstick coating to be launched on the market in 2007. Since then, we’ve created eight generations of Thermolon™. Each is manufactured without forever chemicals known as PFAS and without any Lead or Cadmium. The raw materials, or precursors, are derived from Silicon Dioxide (not to be confused with silicone, which is a type of semi-conductor), which of course originates from sand. The precursor materials join up to form sprayable solution. The liquid part is mainly water. After spraying onto the pans, the coating is then cured in an oven at a relatively low temperature. As a result, the curing process requires 60% less heating energy versus conventional nonstick pans, which means 60% fewer CO2 emissions.
HOW SAFE IS THERMOLON™?
The absence of forever chemicals in our pans means they won’t release toxic fumes, even if you accidentally overheat your pan. Thermolon™ can withstand temperatures up to 850°F/450°C, something that would not be safe to do with a conventional nonstick frypan. Thermolon™ has been certified by third party testing labs as conforming to international regular food contact standards set by the US FDA (USA Food & Drug Administration) and by EU regulators. As the innovators of ceramic nonstick, we continue to create dynamic cookware for our consumers all over the world.
HOW IS YOUR CERAMIC NONSTICK COATING MADE?
It starts with sand-derived raw materials, which we turn into a solution and spray onto the pan without the need for glues or numerous PFAS additives. We’ve cut out the toxins—PFAS, PFOA, Lead, and Cadmium—so you can cook without worry.
IS YOUR COATING PTFE?
No, PTFE is a PFAS, and we do not use any PFAS including PTFE or PFOA in our coatings. Thermolon™ starts out with raw materials, which are derived from Silicon Dioxide, SiO2, which originally came from sand.
DOES THERMOLON™ HEAT FASTER THAN OTHER COATINGS?
Thermolon™ ceramic nonstick is a better heat conductor than conventional nonstick coatings. We recommend that you cook on a lower heat setting than you would do with a conventional nonstick pan. This will prevent your food from burning

ENVIRONMENT

ARE YOUR PANS REALLY GREEN?
Our coating is free of PFAS, PFOA, lead, and cadmium, so you can breathe easy. The curing process for our coating also creates 60% fewer CO2 emissions in comparison with the curing of conventional nonstick coatings. Our factory generates 30% of its power from the solar panels on the roof and it also has its own wastewater treatment plant to keep our water clean and reuse water wastewater in many other processes in the factory.
ARE YOUR PANS SAFE FOR PETS?
We always use our Thermolon™ ceramic nonstick coating on our cookware, which is totally free of PTFE and other PFAS, Cadmium and Lead. Whereas your pan will not release any toxic fumes even when overheated, it is highly recommended to keep pets and birds well away from the kitchen when cooking. Food and cooking oils when overheated can be a source of fumes that are toxic for pets, particularly for our feathered friends.
WHAT ARE THESE PANS MADE OF?
That depends on the collection. GreenPan uses a wide range of materials, including hard anodized aluminum and 3-ply stainless steel. Each of our product pages will detail the pan’s construction.
WHERE ARE GREENPAN PRODUCTS MADE?
All our products are manufactured in our own factories we own in Italy and in China. Unlike most cookware companies, we own our factory, and we carefully control the process. We’ve won numerous awards for our environmental safety, our worker satisfaction, and our overall standards. Our factory has its own wastewater treatment plant and 30% of our factory’s energy comes from solar panels on the roof. We also have our own in-house research and development team working towards the next advancements in healthier and better cooking.
